LOUISVILLE COUNTRY DANCE BOARD MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 5, 2004
Those presesnt included Kathy Goss, Norm Stewart, Beth Brocaw, Leesa Eason, Ken Shepherd, Debra Denenfeld*, and Drew Mills. (*denotes non voting.)
1 Potato Run: --- Norm visited the site and approved of it. He says, however, that the dance hall itself is accoustically very live and will need dampening, such as we have had to do at Church of the Advent. Norm also said he had been in contact with the Contrarians as a possible band for this event in May and they had shown interest in it for a fixed low amount of money with more being promised if there were more than a minimum number of people. MOTION: The motion was made that we seek the Contrarians as our PR band and if they do not work out that we seek other bands. M/S/P
2 Finances: --- Not including the last two weeks receipts we have $6277.24, a figure which has not changed much in a while. We will, however, begin to get membership dues in which will give us a better cushion in the near future. In other words, we're doing OK for now.
3 Minutes: --- from last meeting were modified to reflect that the vote on having the 2004 Belle Dance included one nay vote. M/S/P.
4 Membership Forms: --- New membership forms have been printed which offer a 10% discount on the Weekend with membership. MOTION: A motion was made to eliminate this discount. M/S/P
5 Grants: --- Debra Denenfeld had volunteered to find information concerning possible grants available to us to help us financially in putting on the Belle dances. (Lexington has gotten such aid for some of their activities.) She reported that there seemed to be three types of grants which might show potential:
a) General Operating Support Grant --- To qualify an organization must be independently incorporated in KY as a non-profit and have 501 C-3 status with the IRS, and must have had these for a year. b) Commonwealth Arts Development Grant --- To help organizations start up The deadline for this has passed this year. c) Arts Build Community (replaced Projects Grants): for a special event. Puching partnerships in community. Need another organization to collaborate with who has incorporated in KY and has 501 C-3 status. March 1deadline. Debra has promised to also look into the possibility of a CDSS grant. We will consult with dancing attorneys (of which there are at least four) to gauge the possibility of LCD independently incorporating in KY and gaining 501 C-3 status.
6 Flyers: are being prepared for dances through June or September.
7 July Saturday night dance: Last year we skipped having a July and an August Saturday night dances. This was done to save money. MOTION: We will schedule a dance for July 17, 2004 and wait to decide on the August dance till we are sure of the date for the Sugar Hill event. M/S/P.
8 2004 Belle: Possible bands and callers were discussed for this event. Nightingale and Beth Molaro seemed to be our first choices. These possibilities will be explored by Norm and Lisa.
9 March 1, 2004. MOTION: A special Birthday/Sadie Hawkins day dance will be held. Sherrie "Daisie May" Shepherd will pay $200 so that poor cornpickers and kickapoo Joy Juice drinkers may celebrate the joy of temporary matrimony over and over again for free. Marriage liscences will not be free (so they are taken seriously) at $.50 apiece or three for a dollar and spring water will be a buck each. M/S/P.
Next meeting: February 9 at 6 p.m. at St. Andrew's.
